Barter agreement & safeguards

Last updated 30 September 2026

Draft for legal review. Current preview behaviour is described below. Binding live-service terms and the operator’s legal details need qualified review before launch.

Skill exchanges are not open in preview. These rules are launch requirements. Samples are fictional, including hours and ratings; no exchange history is implied.

Who may participate

Members must be adults aged 18 or over. Organisational representatives must also be adults. Check qualifications, licensing and insurance for regulated work; a public profile is not proof. Medical, financial or other specialist services require appropriate professional authority. Do not arrange unsupervised access to children or vulnerable people; guardian consent, screening, supervision and safeguarding procedures are required.

Agree before the work

Record the task, quality expectations, duration, maximum hours, date, safe location, equipment, travel and materials, reimbursement, cancellation notice and ownership of any work product. An hour earns one time credit; supplies and expenses are not automatically included. No cash value or cash-out is promised.

Safety

Start with a public meeting or remote session where suitable. A public first meeting does not make a later home visit safe: avoid sharing an address publicly, assess the task, arrange check-ins, and stop if you feel unsafe. For immediate danger contact emergency services; the platform is not an emergency service.

Confirming and disputing hours

Both parties must confirm completed work before credits move. Do not confirm disputed hours. Report the reference, agreed scope and evidence to the team; moderators must investigate, record reasons and use an audited correction process. No automated deduction, dispute resolution or debt recovery is promised. Cancellation before completion must not move credits.

Credit limits and reviews

The proposed starting balance is zero with a maximum five-hour negative balance. This is a pilot rule requiring monitoring, not a cash loan or entitlement. Members should pause new requests when near the limit. Reviews require a completed exchange, one review per participant, moderation and an appeal process. Review display and dispute operations are not yet launched.

Community conversations

Join rooms explicitly and accept these rules. Your display name and messages are shared with room members and assigned coordinators; administrators can review them for moderation. Treat people respectfully. Do not post home addresses, passwords, payment credentials, harassment, discriminatory content or unsolicited advertising. Keep requests specific; take sensitive arrangements outside public listings.

Use the message report option to raise a private moderation concern. Coordinators may hide content and replies or suspend room membership, with a recorded reason. They cannot assign themselves additional rooms or alter credits. Administrators assign coordinators. Dispute cases and updates are private to the people involved and the room’s coordinators; introduction cases are private to the requesting member and coordinators.

Open an exchange dispute from My exchanges before confirming contested hours. An open dispute pauses further confirmation. A coordinator records an independent review and may resume confirmation or cancel an uncompleted exchange. Completed ledger entries are not automatically reversed. Contact the team to appeal a decision or request a reviewed correction; no response time or outcome is guaranteed.
